"Innovation for Drought and Agriculture" - FAO-IRI

On the occasion of the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought celebrated every June 17, FAO and IRI (Italian research institutions) ENEA, CNR, CREA and ISPRA, as part of the Memorandum of Understanding, signed in June 2015 and renewed in 2022, are organizing the joint FAO-IRI event entitled "Innovation for drougth and agriculture." Gian Paolo Cesaretti, president of the Simone Cesaretti Foundation, was invited to open the event.

The event, offered in hybrid form online at the link (see below) and in-person at the FAO Building on Viale delle Terme di Caracalla (RM), will be held on June 19, 2023 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.Within the strategy of improving food production and nutrition, the issue of drought is certainly central. Even more so when one considers what the goals of Goal 2 of Agenda 2030 are: to end hunger, achieve food security, improve nutritional intake, and promote sustainable agriculture.Drought is one of the growing effects of climate change, which is bringing serious consequences in the food and nutrition sector of the world's population.

The Simone Cesaretti Foundation's point of view revolves around this paradigm: the search for a new Food Frontier (i.e., combining the right to food and welfare sustainability), will only be possible through innovation capable of ensuring sustainable models of production and consumption based on the transition from a linear to a circular economic system.
